Paneorder assesses this season’s budgeted midfielder and explain why Southampton skipper’s dual potential gives him an edge
Paneorder takes a look at the 2020/21 Fantasy Premier League player standing, assessing the best option according to value and point.
James Ward-Prowse (SOU) 6.2m
The combative midfielder finished as Southampton’s top-scoring midfielder in Gameweek 7, totalled 17 points.
Ward-Prowse’s all-round performances and consistency were particularly encouraging.
His influence on the Saints’ attack was far greater when playing on the road this season.
He produced 4 goals and 3 assists so far, compared five goals and four assists in 2019/20.
Bonus points boost
That free kick and penalty threat could be good news for Ward-Prowse’s prospects in presence of Jannik Vestergaard of earning bonus points.
He can play in right-back position. But he classify as a midfielder every season.
And midfielders earn more points (18 points) than defenders for every goal they score in the Bonus Points System (BPS), which determines the bonus points in any given match. But, of course, forwards earn more points.
His eight bonus points ranked second overall among all Southampton players.
Vulnerable visitor
The Blades’ poor defensive displays inside the box suggest he can extend his run of goals.
They have conceded a penalty to 1-1 draw against Burnley in League Cup. They shipped out ten goals away from home since then.
Those frailties could prove crucial for Ward-Prowse’s prospects in Fantasy, as midfielders earn one more point than forwards for every goal scored.
He has already claimed four clean-sheet points.
