Paneorder assesses this season’s mid-priced defenders and explains why Sheffield United centre-back’s dual potential gives him an edge
Paneorder takes a look at the 2020/21 Fantasy Premier League player list, assessing the best options according to position and price.
John Egan (SHU) 5.0m
The centre-back finished as Sheffield United’s third-scoring defender in his debut campaign in Premier League, totalling 133 points.
Egan’s late-season performances were particularly encouraging.
His two goals last term came across his final six starts.
The 27-year-old’s defensive contributions also lift his prospects of gaining extra through the Bonus Points System.
Indeed, only Lundstram bettered his total of 9 bonus points in 2019/20.
In addition to his attacking contributions, Egan has racked up 13 clean sheets all season.
Despite a rise in cost of 0.5m over the last season, only three defenders have beaten Egan’s value of 26.6 points per million.
That has not gone unnoticed. He is the fifth most-owned defender in the game, owned by 17.2 per cent.
Egan’s appeal is further raised by Sheffield United’ start-of-season run-in.
The Blades face two of the newly promoted sides, Leeds United and Fulham in their first five matches.
