FPL GW1 Free Transfer Glitz: Dwight McNeil

Paneorder on why a share of set-pieces for Burnley midfielder lifts his prospects in Fantasy

Paneorder is selecting an overlooked player who could be set for an impressive Gameweek 1 in 2021/22 Fantasy Premier League.

Dwight McNeil (BUR) 6.0m 0.3% owned

The Burnley midfielder can be found in just 0.3 per cent of squads for his opening match at home Brighton and Hove Albion.

Playing at both flanks in a four-man midfield, McNeil supplied five assists over their last season.

Burnley approach the start of the new campaign on the back of their fourth draw (including three goalless draw) against Cadiz at Turf Moor last weekend.

Brighton & Hove Albion, meanwhile, have yet to win in August and lost to Getafe 2 goal to nil.

They scored just three goals in as many pre-season matches, keeping one clean sheet.

That raises McNeil’s prospects of points in attack and defence in Gameweek 1.

Favourable fixtures

His opening schedule also suggests he could provide a steady stream of returns at the beginning of 2021/22.

According to the Fixture Difficulty Ratings (FDR), only one of first seven matches score more than three. McNeil’s ability to bring in clean sheets, combined with his improved prospects for returns, could see him thrive over that early stretch.

FPL new arrivals: Daka to impact Leicester’s front two

Paneorder says the Zambian’s arrival could lessen the Fantasy appeal of Vardy and Iheanacho

The arrival of Patson Daka (7.5m) could have an impact on the prospects of Leicester’s key attackers in Fantasy Premier League this season.

Jamie Vardy (10.5m) has been playing as the lone striker for Leicester City since opener through 2020/21.

But the signing of Daka, combined with Vardy’s versatility, may mean the Englishman is occasionally used as a second striker from now on.

Daka has been among the most prolific forward in Austria in recent years.

He scored 27 goals in 28 league appearances for Salzburg last season.

Depending on his fitness, the Zambian could be quickly handed a chance to get goals.

Potential ramifications

In the long term, it remains to be seen whether 22-year-old Daka will be a regular starter this season.

But when he features as a substitute, he will have an impact on Leicester’s set-up.

FPL new arrivals: Consider Buendia from the start

Paneorder says winger can be an all-round success when Aston Villa’s fixtures turn favourable in the opening Gameweeks

Paneorder looks at the Fantasy Premier League potential of summer signings ahead of the 2021/22 season.

Emiliano Buendia (AVL) 6.5m

Aston Villa’s new signing has been one of the most attack-minded midfielders in the Championship in the last season.

Buendia scored 15 goals and supplied 16 assists in his 39 starts for Norwich City.

The 24-year-old’s underlying numbers last term further highlight his all-round potential going forward.

His 111 shots and 15 goals have ranked in top 10 among FPL midfielders.

And his total of 16 assists created was bettered than any FPL players.

Indeed only, Ollie Watkins (7.5m), who scored 14 goals, was more clinical among Dean Smith’s players.

Villa have a short-term favourable run-in, and their schedule after that is also likely to steer away from their key players.

In the first three Gameweeks, they will face two of promoted sides: Watford and Brentford.Such a favourable run of opponents from Gameweek 1 could promote investment in Buendia.

FPL prices: Soucek offers goals at little expense

Paneorder takes a look at the 2021/22 Fantasy Premier League player list, assessing the best options according to position and price.

Tomas Soucek (WHU) 6.0m

The West Ham United midfielder established himself as a regular in the whole season of 2020/21.

After starting 13 of his first season, Soucek was named in the starting XI in every game last term.

His ten goals last season were joint-top to Michail Antonio for the club.

And his underlying numbers further highlight Soucek’s prospects.

His 64 shots ranked first among all West Ham United players.

At a cost of just 6.0m, the Czech Republic international has the potential to provide excellent value as a fourth or fifth midfielder.

Soucek was vital figure in helping West Ham United climb the table last term, keeping 10 clean sheets along with his 10 goals in all his 38 appearances.

FPL prices: Salah goal threat gives edge over rivals

Paneorder on the underlying statistics that suggest Liverpool winger should be leading target among premium midfielders

Paneorder takes a look at the 2021/22 Fantasy Premier League player list assessing the best options according to position and price.

The recent release of this season’s fixtures will heavily impact how managers approach Gameweek 1.

Liverpool open the season with Norwich City, and the following fixtures are at home against Burnley.

Managers must now decide whether to captain those Reds players in Gameweek 1, use Triple Captain to get more points.

Mohamed Salah (LIV) 12.5m

The Liverpool attacker’s eye for goal stood out once again last term.

Salah recorded 126 shots and 22 goals, toping both statistics in midfielder category. And his shots in the box were also a league-leading total.

By comparison, Sadio Mane (12.0m) had 94 shots and 11 goals.

Salah’s potential for huge hauls in matches at Anfield makes one of the most explosive captaincy picks available.

He scored 13 of his 22 goals away from home last term.

Salah appears the early favourite to be the most-selected captain in Gameweek 1, with the Reds travel to promoted Norwich City.
