Aston Villa gain Premiership spots in dramatic finish

Aston Villa survived a dramatic end to its Championship on Monday to secure a Premier League spot for next season, while Derby County will make way and return to the second-tier league competition for 12th successive season.

Leading 2-1 in the 81st minute against Lampard’s Rams team fighting promotion, Aston Villa’s defence was tested by Derby’s Waghorn and Marriott in the late stage of the game, and soon after Villa goalkeeper Jed Steer was forced into some vital saves.  But goal in each half which is scored by El Ghazi and McGinn are enough to earn the Villan’s playoff victory.

Four teams had been fighting for the last premier spot in Playoff. But only Aston Villa came out the top.
