Championship Match Day Preview 5May2019

5 May 2019, Sunday

Derby County vs West Bromwich Albion

Aston Villa vs Norwich City

The fate of Championship

Derby County and West Bromwich Albion enter the last match day this weekend with neither side wanting to slip up.

With the 45 games over, County have to get the maximum point to retain their hope in securing a place of playoff but should they trip up, Team at sixth place are poised to pounce and get a ticket in the final promotion push in Wembley.

Tony Pulis’ Middlesbrough, trailing Derby by 1 point, can crank up the pressure on 6th place’s side by winning at relegation bound Rotherham United this weekend.

Derby County have the far harder task of hosting West Bromwich Albion on the last match day but know that a point will be a huge step towards the Premiership, barring whoever they will play their Playoff games in Wembley.

Aston Villa host Norwich City in Villa Park with their hot striker Tammy Abraham still recovering from his injury but in their star’s absence the likes of midfielder Jack Grealish with six goals and six assists has come into their own.

The impressive run of results might have shaken up the Championship world but Daniel Farke has seen up close the work put in on quiet afternoons far from the gaze of the Premiership teams.

There might been some cruel irony ahead, if these Canaries continue to fly high under the Premier league radar for the moment at least and more popular football club brand – with their prize rewards – start circling their emerging talent pool.

Victory in next level of the beautiful games would change all that.
